Christian Patat Grecanico Bianco (Italy)

Bubbly’s take

In our view, Christian Patat is an established alchemist of wine. This sagely wine-producer has already garnered a reputation as a wine-producing consultant, who knows where to snap-up the best grapes for his bottles. The Grecanico certainly does not disappoint and evokes warm memories of Tuscan countryside. This fabulous white wine is however Sicilian and packed full of flavours of lush Italian fruits. If you’re a fan of Gavi di Gavi then we think you’ll like this one too! This wine is crisp, flavoursome and refreshing, and one we feel definitely that deserves its place at the dinner table.

Would go well with

We found this wine a delight to drink. Versatility also seems to be one of its strengths. As such, we think it would pair well with most courses and cuisines but it’s perfectly enjoyable all by itself.

The Italian Job

Some things with archaic roots, like wine, remain timeless and relevant to contemporary challenges. As medieval Italy grappled with the plague, it developed some ingenious yet practical solutions to beat the bug and keep the country appeased. The so-called “wine windows” were devised as a wise way of maintaining social distance while allowing judicious publicans to serve their eager patrons. Check out this article in the New York Post for the full story! YouTube also has a video of some of Florence’s classic wine windows…

DiMarco Primitivo (Italy)

Bubbly’s take

This lushious red wine is surprisingly fruity and refreshing for a primitivo. Hailing from Puglia, this delicious wine has a full and pleasing flavour, lacking the usual tannin aftertaste that is sometimes characteristic of this grape.

Would go well with

A good hearty dish. This primitivo would, naturally, pair with steak or a tomato-based Italian meal. That said, we think this wine would also suit a rich stir-fry and many other protein-heavy recipes.

Melini Chianti Riserva (Italy)

Bubbly’s take

This rather delicious Chianti hails from the lush Tuscan countryside. It is a fruity and quintessential Italian red. This Chianti is fairly full-bodied, with a thoughtful and thought-provoking taste. We enjoyed a good glass of this and also enjoyed cooking with it, adding another glass or so to our infamous “identity crisis” sausage hotpot:

Would go well with

Bold, meaty (…and?) or Italian dishes. We found the Melini Chianti to be both delicious and robust hence we think this would form an excellent pair with a steak-, ragu- or bolognese-based dish.

Gianfranco a Serena Cordero Gavi del di Gavi (Italy)

Bubbly’s take…

This stunning Gavi di Gavi brings a crisp, zesty and pleasing taste to the palate. Best served suitably-chilled, this wine is both delicate and characterful. The Gavi region has an esteemed wine-producing reputation, having cultivated its signature Cortese grapes since the 17th century. A real pleasure to share and drink, we loved this wine and look forward to enjoying more of it amongst friends and family.

Would go well with

A balmy summer’s evening. As a fairly complex white wine, we think this Gavi di Gavi would pair splendidly with most fish or vegetarian dishes but nothing too overwhelming – you’ll definitely want to savour this one.

La Delfina Prosecco (Italy)

Bubbly’s take: This Prosecco offers good value in return for a reasonably dry and well-defined flavour. It comes out of the bottle with a very pale complexion, almost as bright as a midsummer’s moon. This wine has a lilting but not overwhelming taste that is reminiscent of citrus fruits.

Would go well with: Pizza! We even enjoyed this Prosecco on our home-made pizza night:

Col de L’Utia Prosecco Superiore Organic (Italy)

Bubbly’s take: This vibrant Prosecco has a dazzling and zesty profile. It’s neither too dry nor too fruity hence we think this is perfect for bringing balance to more varied dishes. Incidentally, we enjoyed this with a lovely homemade dinner of honeycomb courgette cannelloni, a fennel and pesto tart served with a Caesar salad:

Would go well with: Mediterranean recipes, particularly vegetable-based French or Italian courses. This Prosecco seems to do well at reconciling lots of different dishes so it would be well-paired with a tapas- or meze-based meal.
